Psalms 135 from Scroll 4Q92 Psalmsk

6 Whatever Yahweh pleased, that he has done,

in heaven and in earth, to do as he does,

there is none like Yah, there is none like Yahweh,

there is none who acts as king of the gods[1]

in the seas and in all deeps;

7 who causes the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth;

who makes lightnings with the rain;

who brings the wind out of his treasuries;

Who struck the firstborn of Egypt,

both of man and animal;

[..]

10 who struck many nations,

and killed mighty kings,

11 Sihon king of the Amorites,

Og king of Bashan,

and all the kingdoms of Canaan,

12 and gave their land for a heritage,

a heritage to Israel, his people.

13 Your name, Yahweh, endures forever;

your renown, Yahweh, throughout all generations.

[..]

15 The idols of the nations are silver and gold,

the work of men’s hands.

16 They have mouths, but they can’t speak.

They have eyes, but they can’t see.

Psalms 135 from Scroll 4Q95 Psalmsn

6 Whatever Yahweh pleased, that he has done,

in heaven and in earth, to do as he does,

there is none like Yah, there is none like Yahweh,

there is none who acts as king of the gods[2],

in the seas and in all deeps;

who causes the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth;

who makes lightnings with the rain;

who brings the wind out of his treasuries;

Who struck the firstborn of Egypt,

both of man and animal;

9 Who sent signs and wonders into the middle of you, Egypt,

on Pharaoh, and on all his servants;

[..]

11 Sihon king of the Amorites,

Og king of Bashan,

and all the kingdoms of Canaan,

12 and gave their land for a heritage to us,

for his loving kindness endures forever,

a heritage to Israel, his people,

for his loving kindness endures forever.

Psalms 135 from 11Q5 Psalmsa

Praise Yah! him, you servants of Yahweh,

Praise Yahweh’s name!

Praise him, you servants of Yahweh, Yah!

And exalt Yah, you who stand in Yahweh’s house,

in the courts of our God’s house and in your midst, Jerusalem.

Praise Yah, for Yahweh, for He is good.

Sing praises to his name, for that is pleasant.

For Yah he has chosen Jacob for himself;

and Israel for his own possession.

For I know that Yahweh is great,

that our Lord God is above all gods.

Whatever Yahweh pleased, that he has done,

in heaven and in earth, to do as he has done, there is none like Yah, there is none like Yahweh, and there is none who does as king of the gods in the seas and in all deeps;

who causes the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth;

who makes lightnings with the rain;

who brings the wind out of his treasuries;

8 Who struck the firstborn of Egypt,

both of man and animal;

Who sent signs and wonders into the middle of you, Egypt,

on Pharaoh, and on all his servants;

[..]

17 They have ears, but they can’t hear;

neither is there any breath in their mouths.

18 Those who make them will be like them;

yes, everyone who trusts in them.

19 House of Israel, praise Yahweh!

House of Aaron, praise Yahweh!

20 House of Levi, praise Yahweh!

You who fear Yahweh, praise Yahweh!

21 Blessed be May Yahweh bless you from Zion,

Who dwells at Jerusalem.

Praise Yah!

How to read these pages:

      The translation to the left is based on the World English Bible. Words in regular black font are words in the scrolls matching the traditional text for that passage.

      Words in italics cannot be seen in the scroll, since the scroll is fragmentary. These words are supplied for readability by the World English Bible translation.

      Words present in the scroll but with some letters unreadable or missing are in blue like this: blue. One Hebrew word often is translated into multiple English words, and when this occurs, all the English words are in blue.

      Words present in the scroll but with spelling differences that do not affect the meaning are in green like this: green. This is common in Hebrew.

      If the scroll is different from the traditional text, words in the traditional text that are missing from the text of the scroll are marked through in red like this: strike-through.

      If the scroll is different from the traditional text, words in the scroll that are not in the traditional text are underlined in red like this: new words.
